One of the best boards of 1996, the Screamer 278 (formerly Screamer II) faces much tougher competition this year from new boards with similar size and capabilities. Still, the 278 continues to earn praise for its remarkable combination of quickness, speed and turning ability. Pro testers liked it. Guest testers loved it. The standard comment was, "It's so easy." Construction is tough and components range from good to excellent. The fin is a strong point, though it's too much of a blade for some tastes. Unlike last year the concave deck didn't seem to excite much comment this year.
