District Campaign Created Illusion Of Public Input

Online Stock Market Trading The Lenape Regional High School District says it went to great lengths to inform voters about its plans to build a fourth high school. "It was an amazingly open process," said Superintendent Daniel F. Hicks. The district's public information campaign included numerous meetings and volumes of printed material, and won an award for excellence from the New Jersey School Boards Association. It also was a public information campaign in which Lenape officials did not share with voters - and even some public officials - everything they knew about potential zoning problems with the site they had chosen for Seneca High School in Tabernacle.

Faux finish painting is a completely different technique used to give illusions to your walls. It is simply using sponges, rags and other tools and items to create certain patterns and illusions with the paint. This technique is becoming more and more popular because people are realizing just how easy it is to create. Also because of the uneven illusions of art in the faux finishes" texture, it makes this kind of painting perfect for walls with imperfections.

Stock Investing Course At times, the district seemed more intent on creating an illusion of public involvement than on soliciting residents' opinions on what it should do to relieve overcrowding at its three high schools, a Courier-Post review of the information campaign found.

Stock Investing Game It asked for the public's input on three possible solutions: Should Lenape expand its three existing high schools to a capacity of 2,650 students each? Should it expand the three existing schools to a capacity of 2,000 students and build a fourth high school for 2,000? Or, should it build a fourth high school to house students from Shamong, Southampton, Tabernacle and Woodland, and add a ninth- and 10th-grade building at Cherokee High School in Evesham?

Stock Market News The district had begun searching for a site for a new school in February 1996, more than a year before the hearings.

Stock Investing Basics By the time of the hearings, Lenape had narrowed the list of potential sites to a handful. Four months before the hearings, in November 1996, the district hired an architect to begin designing a new school building.

Stock Investing Software At the first hearing, held at Cherokee High School, residents trying to evaluate the options asked how much each would cost. Hicks replied that it was too early to say.

Stock Market Trading In fact, in June 1995, more than a year before, cost estimates on four options had been prepared by consultant W. Frank Johnson and The Design Collaborative, an architectural firm, for the district. Their report showed the new-school option favored by the district to be the most costly - $10 million more than expanding each of its existing three high schools.

Stock Investing For Dummy The month before its public hearings, district leaders held a closed-door session with a select group of educators, parents and residents that it calls its "key communicators."

Stock Market Crash At least one former "key communicator" said she felt the session was more of a sales pitch for a new school than a sincere effort to solicit the group's opinions.

Stock Investing Tip "They wanted to gain our support," said Judy Rapp, of Shamong, who attended the February 1997 meeting. "I don't think they had any intention of really listening to what we thought should be done.''

Stock Market Chart Rapp supports building Seneca in Tabernacle as necessary to relieve overcrowding at Shawnee High School in Medford. But she is troubled by the way the school went about enlisting public participation.

Online Stock Investing "It felt like we were all railroaded into proposals rather than allowed to participate," she said.

Stock Market Crash Of The district also noted that it mailed a newsletter and survey to 55,000 homes in June 1997 to gather public input.

Stock Investing For Beginner The survey did not ask residents what they wanted to do, but whether they were aware of the district's plan to relieve overcrowding by building a fourth high school and expanding Cherokee.

Finance Journal Personal A newsletter accompanying the survey noted that the school board was "turning to you, its stake holders, for guidance and support as it pursues the plan it feels best meets the needs of the present and future high school students...

Stock Market Report "Please take the time to read this newsletter and respond to the anonymous survey enclosed. Be informed and get involved in a decision that will directly affect the future of your children and your community!"

Finance Investing Stock Market The newsletter noted that during the earlier public hearings some residents had suggested other alternatives for relieving overcrowding: extending the school year, going to split sessions, and expanding the existing high schools by adding a third floor to each.

Wall Street Journal Com The newsletter said those suggestions had been ruled out by the school board. The survey didn't ask residents for their opinion about the overcrowding solution approved by the school board or any of the others it considered or residents suggested.

Stock Market Investing Advice Instead, most of the "questions" on the survey were statements, to which the respondent was asked to check " aware" or "unaware," making it more like a push poll, which is designed to promote a position rather than to gauge public opinion.

Street Trader Wall Question No. 11, for example, asked residents: "Are you aware of the pros and cons offered for each option being considered to deal with ... overcrowding?" The board at that time had already decided which option to pursue - construction of a new school - though it hadn't scheduled a date for a referendum.

Indian Stock Market Question No. 16 asked residents if they were aware that the school board "has no authority under state law to charge developers a fee for the new students brought into the district as a result of the construction of residential properties."

Stock Investing Advice Question No. 17 asked residents if they were aware that, "The Lenape District is the second lowest spending regional high school district in New Jersey."

Free Journal Street Wall The newsletter accompanying the survey said "it is premature to provide accurate cost data at this time" for the proposal to build a new high school and expand Cherokee. That's because the school board had just authorized "its architect to proceed with designing and preparing cost estimates for" the project, the district's newsletter stated.

Stock Market Information In fact, the district hired its architect to begin designing a new high school in November 1996 - seven months before the survey.
