Stock Market News Among the Big Board stocks, Waste Management reported a 23 percent gain in second quarter earnings.Pentair, which completed the acquisition of WICOR Industries, a unit of Wisconsin Energy Corporation (NYSE: WEC) Aug 2, said that its water segment generated 43 percent of total revenues in the first half of 2004 and that sales increased from $100 million in 1995 to approximately $1.1 billion in 2003. Pentair's growth in water treatment has been fueled by acquisition.Jacobs Engineering reported lower third-quarter earnings July 26, citing previously suspended or delayed work and a canceled project, and narrowed its forecast earnings range for the fiscal year. In a series of announcements earlier this week Jacobs announced a host of new government contracts.

Thomas Weisel downgraded Donaldson May 27 from "Outperform" to "Peerperform".Siemens Aktiengesellschaft is predominantly in the field of electronics and electrical engineering, a far stretch for the environmental sector.

Stock Market Trading General Electric is, well, GE, which has its tentacles in many arenas, including environmental sector electronic components which is where Siemens would have fallen into this group. Analysts consensus for GE earnings for September is 38 cents per share. To date, it appears that GE will hit the mark.

Stock Investing For Dummy Republic Services reported earns of 39 cents per share July 28, reaffirming its annual earnings estimate of $1.50 to $1.55 per share. The provider of solid waste collection, transfer and disposal services earnings for the quarter were 2 cents above the same period last year.Allied Waste was downgraded July 28 by JP Morgan and Thomas Weisel from "Overweight" to "Neutral" (Morgan) and "Outperform" to "Peerperform" (Weisel) due to disappointing results. Allied had reported a loss for the 2nd quarter of 7 cents per share.

Stock Market Crash Fluor Corp., a designer of industrial buildings, 2nd quarter earnings came in at 54 cents per share compared to 56 cents in the same period a year ago, when the company benefited from a $2 million gain from discontinued operations.

Stock Investing Tip Honeywell, like GE and Fluor, is stretching it to lump it into the environmental sector, however, UBS analyst David Bleustein said in a research note released Wednesday that he cut HON's rating from "Neutral" to "Reduce", saying the aerospace contractor's (fit environmental in that) shares were valued above historic norms after performing well despite softness in the airline sector.

Greenman Technologies (AMEX: GRN) was interviewed by The Wall Street Transcript and appeared in that website last week when the Environmental Sector Report was posted.

Stock Market Crash Of Greenman, which is a nationwide recycler of tires headquartered in Lynnfield Massachusetts, went on an acquisition spree in 2003, rolling up four tire recycling operations and seemed to be heading in the right direction when their bank was closed by the FDIC and a fire at their Georgia waste tire recycling center shut down that operation, which took a year to collect on insurance coverage.

Stock Investing For Beginner But in early July things changed after the tire recycler announced the completion of a $9 million financing with Laurus Master Fund, Ltd., a New York-based institutional fund that specializes in direct investments in growing small-cap companies.

Finance Journal Personal On August 2, GreenMan was named 50th in Waste Age Magazine's annual list of Top 100 Waste Industry Players. For investors that follow environmental stocks, GRN may be one of the crown jewels in that sector and grossly undervalued. Shares of GreenMan Tech had declined 40 percent over the last twelve months.

The Reno-based photochemical recycler has poured million of dollars over several years into their subsidiary, Itronics Metallurgical, Inc., to develop a process to remove all of the heavy metals from photo chemicals, capturing 99% of those pollutants and recovering the silver which they manufacture into 5 ounce 99% pure silver bars. Itronics is the only manufacturer of 5-ounce silver bars in the USA.

Finance Investing Stock Market Itronics was a top performer in the Waste Management Services sector in July with a 70%+ increase in sales. The company has developed a family of environmentally friendly fertilizers made from the liquids collected and processed at its plant in Reno. Itronics' Gold-N-Gro brand of fertilizers have been predominantly sold in California in bulk through a distributor. The Company announced July 1 that its first quarter sales of fertilizer were up 70% and 90% for the second half.Itronics shares, like GreenMan Technologies, have fallen over 100% from its 52-week high of 24.5 cents, breaking its low for that period of 8.5 cents, hitting a new low of 6 cents in late July. The Company stated that it was in an application process in Oregon and Washington in order to get their labeling approved to qualify with environmental regulations set by the EPA. Itronics expects sales - and earnings to improve as those markets open.

Wall Street Journal Com While larger companies benefit from analytical exposure, many of the better plays are often found in smaller companies whose shares are not on the radar screens of those institutional investment gurus.
