The Economical Saga Continues
The Economical Saga Continues
Online Stock Market Trading Multiple sources today have revealed more news regarding EA and its possible buyout of Ubisoft. It began with an article from The Wall Street Journal that ran earlier today citing that the two publishers are apparently holding talks about scenarios in which EA would assume control of Ubisoft.
The Guillemot family, that currently owns 17.5 percent of Ubisoft shares but maintains a 26 percent voting right in the past has been outspoken about not wanting to allow EA to take over their company and described the megapublisher's actions as hostile. According to the article in the Journal however, the two sides are now discussing what price Ubisoft's shares would be valued at if EA were to assume control of the company. EA bought its roughly 20% stake in Ubisfot at $26.54 per share, but reportedly Ubisoft is looking for over $52 share, roughly ten dollars more than shares of the company are currently trading at.
According to the Journal article the talks are currently in the preliminary stages. The Guillemot's may still seek financial backing from another company in order to fend off a takeover from EA. The Journal article even suggested that Ubisoft may be seeking some money from Disney to keep itself independent.
Gamespot contacted Electronic Arts vice president of corporate communications Jeff Brown, who told the site that it would be wrong to suggest any of the discussions between EA and Ubisoft are negotiations.
GCA will have more on this story as it develops.
